A Call for Artists!

A call for artists…
Flat River Gallery & Framing is currently engaged in a call for artists and portfolio submissions for established and emerging artists to join our cooperative.

Do you want to be a part of a vibrant arts community in a charming destination village? Flat River Gallery & Framing, with approximately 2000 square feet space, is nestled near the beautiful Flat River at 219
West Main Street in historic Lowell, Michigan. Many of our artists have called this space ‘home’ for the past six years when it was a different gallery. Now, as a new artists’ cooperative, we have a member‐run Board of Directors and a number of members showing and working at the gallery. We currently show a range of classic to contemporary experimental art, hand‐crafted wood products and furniture, textiles, jewelry, clay and photography as well as refurbished upholstered vintage chairs. A working studio and framing center, we believe in providing quality art, custom framing expertise and exceptional customer service.

If you are an established or emerging fine artist or refined crafts person residing in the Greater Grand
Rapids, Michigan area, you are eligible to apply for membership. We ask that you be the sole originator of your work, the work is fresh, original, recent, handmade, and different from other work that is currently in our Gallery.

If you are interested in joining our cooperative, jurying takes place at our monthly meetings the first Thursday of each month. Prior to the meeting you will need to submit 4‐5 samples of your work and complete the attached application electronically to info@flatrivergalleryandframing.com. You will need to provide a description of your work, retail pricing for each item submitted, and a $5 jury fee. Please do not leave artwork at the gallery. Applications without photographs will not be considered.
JURY CRITERIA
Originality
Technique, quality and craftsmanship
Sense of color and design
Ability to communicate via email
Marketability
Fit/Appropriateness with gallery
Price range
Availability to work at the gallery
If you have or need a special display for your work (i.e. jewelry case, pedestal, etc.) please ask for a copy of the floor display guidelines. If you have photos of your display, please submit those with your application as well. After your application is reviewed and accepted by the Jury Committee you will then be notified by phone of the next available jury date and time. Bring in original work only when you come to be juried, plus any display information the committee might ask for. Three to six pieces of your work ought to be enough.
All applicants will be notified by phone or email following the jury process and accepted members will be taken through the steps of having their work introduced into the gallery, including review of the artists’ agreement, scheduling,

We are opening our doors TODAY!!

Although we are still in transition, our framer is up and running! Receive anything for Christmas that you would like to be framed?  Deidre is an expert at putting that finishing touch of a frame on artwork, print, or even memorabilia!

If you are a Lowell resident the convenience of our Main Street location is perfect; no need to make the trip to a big crafts store. Plus you get the added expertise of a real artist's eye!

We have many artists who have already created their wall experience for you, so make sure and come to check those as well!

We are open late so stop by after work or before dinner at the Flat River Grill or any of the other wonderful restaurants on Main Street. Look for the warm glow of the lights from our 219 West Main location.

Looking forward to continuing to create an awesome gallery for Lowell and the greater Grand Rapids area!

OUR HOURS TODAY ARE 11-7! Looking forward to see you!!
